A whooping N4.175 Billion (Four Billion, One Hundred and Seventy Five Million) is stolen monthly from the office of the Head of Service from funds meant for pensioners, Pointblanknews.com can report authoritatively.
A report exclusively obtained by Pointblanknews.com from the Dr. A.A Maina led Presidential Pension Reform Committee also discovered that officials from the Police Pension offices steal N1 Billion meant for police pensioners monthly.
Before President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan set up the committee for the sanitization of Pension, for about 52 years, thousands of Pensioners have died, many traumatized and impoverished while officials in Government brazenly steal their entitlements.
The discovery by the Committee reveal that both the office of the Head of Service and the Police Pension Offices over the years steal over N60 Billion yearly.
The pension Reform committee, according to the document has in conjunction with the EFCC traced and seized about 200 properties running into Billions of Naira from some of the alleged corrupt Government officials in the Office of the Head of Service and the Police Pension Offices
Government officials from both the office of the Head of Service and the police Pension clandestinely created 73,000 ghost pensioners and pocket the monies monthly.
Pensioners who have been out of the Government employ 42 Years ago were never paid since retirement until the Government set up the Pension Reform committee.
A Biometrics conducted by members of the Pension Reform Committee discovered that over the years, Government officials in the office of the Head of Service and Police Pension Fund recycle dead pensioners’ files and retain same on payroll, to collect pension without trace.
Out of about 141, 790 payroll the Committee investigated nationwide, it discovered that 73, 000 fake pensioners had over the years collected pension from both the office of the Head of Service and the Police pension office without trace, a document obtained by Pointblanknews.com revealed.
The document further revealed that the Bank accounts of the National Union of Pensioners, NUP, were used as conduit pipe to steal pensioners’ funds from the office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
According to the document “ The funds were illegally transferred in the name of Check-off dues payment payment to the union.”
The President of the NUP, Alhaji Ali Abatcha, according to the document was arrested by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and has made useful information.
The document says the committee has also traced and cracked down notorious and fraudulent pension cartel and mafia spread across the country.
According to the Committee’s document, “The pension mafias usually recruit under aged people, Primary school teachers and other jobless people to pay into their accounts millions of naira with a promise of 10% cut of such millions, while they returned the remaining balance of the funds to the public servants.”
The finding of the Pension Reform Task team according to the report has led to the arrest and prosecution of a Permanent Secretary in the Head of Service, Police Officers, a former Director of the HOS Pensions, his Deputy and 30 others.
The committee, which has recovered and saved over N221.855 Billion, has now devised a more mechanized mode of paying pensioners in the country and those in diaspora.
