BEWARE: Ladies, Don't Take Drugs During Menstruation?

A Gynaecologist at the Garki Hospital, Abuja, Kayode Obendek, has warned that taking drugs during menstruation could affect ovulation.
Mr. Obendek told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that drugs taken during menstruation could interfere with ovulation in many ways.
He said pain killers and sometimes anti-malarial drugs could have effect, when taken during menstruation.
He explained that those drugs could have other effects, but patients could not be left in pain, so the drugs would be administered.
Some patients are given hormonal drugs and some given family planning pills to reduce the pains.
“Some drugs have been found to affect hormonal reproduction in both men and women and cause problem with menstruation that could lead to sexual challenges and infertility,’’ he said.
He said that drug use could also disrupt the menstrual cycle and could stop women from having their periods.
“Women need accurate information about the impact of drugs on their menstrual cycle to enable them manage their reproductive health effectively.
Mr. Obendek, however, advised that women should consult with their doctors, who would know how to handle the problem.
