The immediate past commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Cooperative in Oyo State was arrested in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The immediate past commissioner for Trade, Investment and Cooperative in Oyo State, Kazeem Adedeji, was on Wednesday arrested in Ibadan by men of the Special Anti-Fraud Unit, Lagos.
He was arrested alongside his wife, Biodun, at the latter’s office at Enterprise Bank, Agodi, Ibadan.
One of Mr. Adedeji’s associates, who broke the news to PREMIUM TIMES, said the former commissioner was at the bank earlier in the day to visit his wife.
“But soon after he left, the wife put across a distress call, informing him that a team of policeofficers were about to whisk her away from her desk.
“Honourable had to make a detour to know what was really the matter. On getting to the scene, the police team told him they were sent to Ibadan to effect the arrest of the two of them,” the source said.
Though our reporter could not get full information on the allegation and the arrest, Mr. Adedeji’s associates attributed his arrest to politics.
Mr. Adedeji was one of the aspirants who contested the Action Congress of Nigeria ticket with Abiola Ajimobi for the 2011 governorship election in the state.
When Mr. Ajimobi became the governor in 2011, he appointed him as a commissioner, but later dropped him under mysterious circumstances.
Sources said the team who effected the arrest created some scene as they made to go with their victims.
It was gathered that the bank manager tried to resist the arrest insisting that they had no right to arrest his staff without prior notice.
The police team eventually had its way and took the couple to the Iyaganku Police Station before they were driven to Lagos around 1.30 p.m.
When called to confirm the incident, Bisi Ilebanefor, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, promised to get back.
