Nine persons have been electrocutedf and 13 others injured when they had contact with live electricity wires, which snapped during a windstorm and downpour in Anchau town in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Assistant General Manager of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC), Baba Limmy Omar-Ikaige disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen. He explained that the windstorm caused live electricity cables connected to the fallen poles electrocute the victims.
The management of KEDC, a subsidiary of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has donated the sum of N500, 000 to the victims of the electrocution. The Managing Director of KEDC, Idris Mohammed, according to the statement led other management staffers on a condolence visit to Anchau community and announced the donation.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives, and quick recovery of those who sustained injuries. He urged all stakeholders to exercise caution when using electricity, stressing that people should not build houses, shops or do business close to PHCN live wires. Responding, the village Head of the community, Mallam Yusuf Yakubu expressed appreciation to the KEDC/PHCN for their timely response.
