ABUJA: New Transport Scheme, Passengers Lament?

Just when residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, thought the answers to their prayer to alleviate traffic jam had been answered, little did they know that the newly introduced transport scheme will cause more gridlock in parts of the FCT.

The small buses also known as Araba that ply the Nyanya Masaka road now charge more than the usual fare as a result of the newly introduced buses.
Passengers who were faced with these challenges lamented to Vanguard about their ordeals and called on government to intervene.
Mr Ibrahim Joshua, a business man, said: “I am not happy about this situation because this evening (Wednesday) I boarded a vehicle around 6 pm from Wuse to Nyanya only to spend more than two hours on the road. There was traffic hold up from Aya to Nyanya. From Nyanya to Maraba is free and in Nyanya all the big vehicles block the road.
“So government should try and solve the situation and let them reduce the price to N50 from Nyanya to wuse.”

Also lamenting on the new traffic regime. Mr Clement Okeke, a worker with Sharon ultimate said, “I am very angry because today our staff bus did not work that is why I am experiencing this kind of situation and the situation is even getting worse.
“The hold-up started from AYA down to Nyanya people even took one way in order to survive the situation so the thing is getting worse on daily basis, we the masses are not happy about it.
“Before now, we were paying N100 for the big bus to Masaka but now, I paid N80 to Nyanya and N150 to Masaka which is getting to almost N300 instead of N100 that I was paying. So we are not happy about it.”
