NASARAWA STATE: 27 Killed In Rukubi Village?

Rukubi is now calm following the deployment of mobile police officers there.
About 27 people were reported dead following Tuesday’s attack on Rukubi Village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Several other are said to have sustained various kinds of injuries from the clash.
Speaking in a telephone conversation with PREMIUM TIMES, a witness, Aliyu Iyimoga, said several people were killed and many others wounded in the attack. He also said that 20 houses and 10 cars filled with farm produce were razed; and about 15 motorcycles stolen from Rukubi residents by the attackers.
“Many people have been killed by the attackers, 20 houses, have also been burnt including 10 cars and people’s farm products,” Mr. Iyimoga said.
Mr. Iyimoga told PREMIUM TIMES that calm has returned to the village following deployment of mobile police officers there, while some residents have fled to neighbouring villages and others have taken refuge in Lafia, the state capital.
The resident said the community members suspected the attack to be a reprisal by the Tiv community displaced by Fulani militias last year.
Mr. Iyimoga also dismissed insinuations that villagers restrained the attackers; saying that the villagers were taken unawares by the attackers as he appealed to government to provide permanent security posts in the areas to quell further attacks.
Efforts to reach the Nasarawa State Police Command on the actual casualty was unsuccessful as the spokesperson, Cornellius Ocheli, told PREMIUM TIMES that he was out of the state on a seminar in Makurdi and could not comment on the incident.
