The FRSC official died shortly after he got to hospital.
An army officer serving with the 33 Guards Battalion, Keffi Command, in Nasarawa State took to his heels after his car ran into a moving patrol van of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, killing one officer, S.K. Glade, and injuring three others along Keffi Akwanga high way in Nasarawa State.
The soldier was seated at the passenger’s side as his fiancée drove and accidentally ran into the FRSC van while attempting to dodge two motorcyclists, the sector commandant, Udoma Francis, told journalists in Lafia, the state capital.
Mr. Francis said the lady told FRSC officials that they were returning from their engagement ceremony. He said at the point the FRSC officers were making efforts to rescue the injured FRSC official, the couple ran away.
The FRSC official, Mr. Glade, died shortly after he got to hospital while three others who sustained critical injuries are currently at a Hospital in Akwanga.
The army officer, who had earlier identified himself to FRSC officials as a captain, sent young army officers in two Hilux vans to forcefully retrieve his car, with registration number BR 403ABC Nissan Maxima, when FRSC officers began towing the car to their office in Akwanga.
Mr. Francis said the car was seen at the Keffi Guards Battalion a day after it was forcefully collected at gunpoint by the army officers.
He added that efforts to report the matter to the commandant at the Guards Battalion, Keffi, were not successful as officers at the gate had refused his officers entry into the barracks on two occasions.
“I never knew the officer will behave like that seeing his fellow human beings in pains but chose to run away after fruitful discussion we had with him, it is very fortunate,” he said.
He said that FRSC officials at the head office in Abuja reported the situation to officials of the army at their headquarters in Abuja and that the army had promised to ensure the culprit faces the law.
