Three separate explosions in and around Baghdad killed at least nine people and wounded 15 Tuesday morning, police said.
In one attack in northwestern Baghdad, a mortar round landed on a residential area and killed seven people. Several house were damaged.
In another, a car bomb exploded near an outdoor market killing two people and wounded 10. In the western outskirts of Baghdad, a mortar round landed in a residential area and wounded three people.
Overall, violence in Iraq has dropped since the peak of sectarian attacks between 2005 and 2007, but lethal attacks continue to occur almost daily.
