Pilots in Deadly Russian Plane Crash Were Drunk

On Sept. 12. in Russia's Far east Kamchatka peninsula an AN-28 aircraft crashed killing ten people, including one child, and injuring four others.

The passenger AN-28 airplane was making a regular flight from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy to the city of Palana in the north of the Kamchatka peninsula.

The airplane disappeared from radar at 12:28 local time (04:28 Moscow time).
"We assumed the airplane made a forced landing just five minutes away from Palana airport," said Sergey Khabarov, the minister of special programs of Kamchatskiy region.
When rescuers found the airplane, it was "lying on its side in a thicket of mountain pines on a hill slope at an altitude of 900 meters, 10 km from Palana," emergency services said.

Russia’s investigative agency says both the pilots of a plane, killing 10 people, were drunk.

The Investigative Committee said Monday that a forensic study found the first pilot of the local flight was lightly intoxicated and his co-pilot was moderately intoxicated.
Ten of 14 people on board, including both pilots, were killed.
Investigators say they are looking into who was responsible for letting the pilots on board.
Russia has had a series of deadly crashes in recent years, rooted in lax government controls, poor crew training and neglect of safety rules. Investigators determined that the pilot of a plane that crashed in June 2011, killing 47, was also drunk.
