The ban on mini buses in Abuja has been suspended.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has suspended the ban on the use of mini-buses within the Federal Capital City, Abuja for three weeks.
The FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, gave the directive on Wednesday after meeting with stakeholders including the officials of the Mini-Buses Union, FCT chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, and the FCT Police Commissioner as well as Director, Department of State Security.
According to a statement signed by the Minister’s spokesperson, Mohammed Sule, the Minister, directed the setting up of a Committee to be chaired by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Anthony Ozodinobi, to fine-tune the implementation of the new scheme.
The minister also said all the stakeholders and members of civil society organizations are being represented on the implementation Committee.
The minister that there is no going back on the policy as it is for the good of all the residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
He announced that other transportation related policies including the ban on “Car Mart, Car Wash and illegal Motor Parks scattered in and around the Federal Capital City…will also be enforced”.
The Minister said the FCT Park-and-Pay policy had faced challenges. He added that the enforcement of such ban/measures is the only solution to sanitising the transport-related problems in the Federal Capital Territory.
