A fully laden petrol tanker, on Friday, fell, spilled its content and burst into flames along Mbiama junction, by Ahoada bypass in Rivers State, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said.

Eight people were also hurt in the fire that emanated from the crash.
“One man and a woman were killed while eight other persons were injured,” the corps said. “The police, Firemen, FRSC and other security operatives were involved in the rescue.”
The corpses at the accident site were collected by their relations for burial while the injured were taken to Okolobiri General Hospital in Bayelsa State.

FRSC said there was no scooping of fuel at the site, which used to be the case whenever an accident of this nature occurs.
It also said the high casualty figure is because “the incident happened where people were carrying out their businesses”.
Property damaged as a result of the accident include eleven vehicles, four motorcycles, thirteen shops, twenty three makeshift houses, as well as two Churches and a Mosque.
