The management of Arik Air on Tuesday admitted that two of its staff were arrested at the Heathrow Airport in London, England for suspected drug trafficking.
The issue was first conformed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA which disclosed that it had already opened investigations on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the Arik Airline workers were allegedly nabbed with the illicit drugs. The value of the drugs was put at £ 600,000.
Spokesperson of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju described the issue as a national embarrassment. He said “we are aware of the arrest and we have
opened an investigation into the matter”
There was a similar occurence in December 2011, when Chinwendu Uwakaonyenma, an Air Hostess with the airline was arrested at Heathrow Airport for smuggling drugs into the United Kingdom. She is presently serving a five and a half years jail term.
