SSANU said its members are being owed two months salary.
The senior non-academic staff of Nigerian universities have announced that they will commence an indefinite strike from October 1.
The officials, member of SSANU, disclosed this in a letter dated September 27 and sent by the union’s national president, Samson Ugwoke, to branch chairmen in universities across Nigeria.
Mr. Ugwoke said the strike will be total, alleging that its members salaries have been withheld for two months, which is the reason for the strike.
SSANU’s General Secretary, Promise Adesuwa, who signed the letter, said no member of the union should return to work until directed by the national leadership.
Mr. Adesuwa said the union took the decision after its demand was unattended to following its letter to university vice chancellors, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim; Minster of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu; Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike; and Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Julius Okojie.
Already, university lecturers, ASUU, have been on a nationwide strike for three months demanding that the federal government implements a 2009 agreement it had with the union. President Goodluck Jonathan has already said some content of the agreement cannot be met by the government.
