The Anti Corruption Network has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack the entire management and board of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute anyone found guilty in the disappearance of 2.1 billion naira from the firm’s vault.
Addressing journalists during a protest staged in Lagos yesterday, the Lagos State Coordinator of Anti Corruption Network, Ayo Oyalowo said the group has gathered to show its displeasure towards the “shameless and barefaced” looting that has characterised the present government in the country.
According to Oyalowo, the group has “been reliably informed that freshly minted one thousand naira notes, totaling 2 billion and one hundred million naira vanished in to thin air. All we have heard from the officials are some half hearted and unconvincing speeches.
“It simply means four thousand, two hundred packets of 1000 naira notes took a walk. Only a 30 ton truck or about three bullion vans can move such huge volume of physical cash, therefore how do we explain the disappearance of such amount without any trace?”
The Anti Corruption Network stressed that any attempt to sweep the issue under the carpet will point to the fact that the government is culpable and in a society where criminals continue to et away with huge crimes, such society is giving an open invitation to anarchy which will ultimately force the people to take the laws into their hands.
