Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Monday struck in Potiskum, Yobe State. The gunmen stormed the Potiskum Police Area Command and opened fire. A Divisional Police Officer and three others were killedin the attack. Street Journal gathered that after the police formation had been hit, the gunmen proceeded to a branch of Unity Bank in the town and reportedly helped themselves to all the cash in the branch before burning the bank down.
The suspected terrorists also blew up some of the communication masts in the town.
A statement from the Joint Task Force made it known that three of the attackers were felled in the gun battle. The JTF stated that the attack at the police area command started around 2 am and its men moved promptly to reinforce the police in order to repel the attack.
Just hours before the attack, the Joint Task Force had announced the recovery of 11 assault rifles from terrorists.
