EMBARRASSING: GTBank Website Shut Down?

The website of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, one of the most innovative banks in Nigeria experienced an outage on Wednesday due to a database connection error suggesting a MySQL issue.  [See image below]
As at 1:30pm (GMT +1) when this post was being written, the website was inaccessible, but sources toldTechLoy that the website has been down since 10:00am on Wednesday.
UPDATE: The website has been restored (albeit slow) as at 2:15pm (GMT+1), after about four hours of outage, although the bank is yet to issue a statement.
As a result of this outage, some of the bank’s electronic channels, including its Internet Banking services are unavailable, so customers would not be able to perform any transactions via the Internet.
The cause of the outage could not be ascertained, but a similar outage last year saw the bank’s website make an unusual domain URL redirect to something like a domain parking page of another website.
The bank later issued a statement after several hours saying that its website was “unavailable during an upgrade process”.
We’ve reached out to the bank’s IT personnel and would update this post as soon as we know more.

More detail soon....
