Over 60 Travelers, Dead?

Explosion Kills Over 60 Travelers In Kano

Over 60 travelers have been killed after a huge explosion at a motor Park in Sabongari area of Kano.

The casualties are said to be mostly Igbo traders heading to the East and other parts of the country to purchase goods sold in the Northern commercial state of Kano.
It is not immediately known what caused the explosion but sources in Kano are pointing fingers at the direction of the Boko Haram Islamist Militant group.

Though security authorities are yet to confirm the casualty figure in Monday’s suicide bomb attack at the New Road Luxury Terminal, Sabon Gari, Kano, northern Nigeria, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Kano, Chief Michael Idika who visited the scene of the incident said over 60 people lost their lives and several others wounded.
He told Pointblanknews.com that, “I counted up to 60 dead bodies and several others were wounded. It was devastating.”
The suicide bombers on a Golf car ambushed a Lagos-bound Gobison luxury bus at the gate of the Luxury terminal blowing up the explosives, while Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) already planted into four other buses inside the Park blew up simultaneaously.
Two buses owned by Gobison, two owned by Ezenwata Transport and one other owned by Chimezie Transport Limited were badly touched in the attack.
Fear and apprehension have gripped residents of Sabon Gari, a community predominantly inhabited by non-natives.
Apart from the 59 seated passengers onboard the ill-fated bus, it was gathered that there were no fewer than 40 extra passengers when it was blown up and none according to our sources survived..
As at the time of filing this report, the tragic scene was cordoned off by men of the military joint task force to pave way for the evacuation of both dead and injured victims, who were taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist mortuary in the case of the dead victims.
Some of the inured victims had amputated arms and limbs, resulting from the severe impact of the explosions. About six explosions were heard in the busy park that accommodates mostly South-bound bound passengers.
At the last count, apart from the wrecked Gobison bus, 10 other buses were torched.
Neither the Police Command nor the Joint Military Task Force could give official figures of casaulties as at the time of filling this report.
However, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, JTF spokesman said  that it would be too early  to release casualty figures, pointing out that, “our interest now is to ensure that the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, while efforts are being made by firefighters to extinguish the raging flames in the park.We are also making efforts to prevent thieves from taking advantage of the situation to steal properties.”
