The Police in Benue state at the weekend, impounded a vehicle carrying dangerous arms and explosives and arrested one person suspected to be member of the Boko Haram sect.
LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the incident occurred on Friday night when well-armed men of the Police Force intercepted the vehicle around Ankpa Quarters junction in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. The incident caused panic in Makurdi metropolis.
It was learnt that the impounded laden car, a Volkswagen model, had five persons in it and had run into the police who were on stop and search duty at the place. The incident happened between 9 and 10pm on Friday.
The development raised the curiosity of the police when the occupants of the suspected vehicle had ran out of the car in order to escape. The police quickly pursued them, shot sporadically and later arrested the one of the culprits.
However, it was also gathered that the boot of the car was laden with arms even as the arrested man who wore a caftan told the policemen that they were coming from Naka road which houses one of the big churches in town.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala, however, dispelled the rumour and said that the occupants of the car were not Boko Haram members. He stated that one of the gunmen was arrested.
