FEC will discuss the avalanche of contracts to be awarded and the country’s plan to join Organisation of French Speaking Countries
The Federal Executive Council, FEC, will, Wednesday, discuss a proposal for Nigeria to join the international organisation of French speaking countries as observer.
The Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Rufai, will present a memo to seek approval for a proposal for the country to join the organisation. The Council, not known for rejecting proposals presented by members, is most likely going to grant the approval.
It’s contract galore
The Executive Council will also pore over an avalanche of contracts in the different sectors of the economy, which members would review or approve at the end of their meeting.
Apart from opening discussions seeking approval for the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (2012- 2016), President Goodluck Jonathan, who is expected to preside over the meeting, will also present a memo that would kick start the implementation of the National Identity Management System, NIMS, project.
The president’s memo would be on the contract for the supply of customised blank smart cards and personalisation of the smart cards towards the issuance of the National Identity smart cards.
He is also scheduled to present the memo for discussion of the contract for the engagement of consultant for the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI, towards the fiscal allocation and statutory disbursement audit for 2007 to 2011.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, would solicit the cooperation of other members to secure approval for the revision of estimated total cost of the contract for the construction of tanks 1 & 6 associated trunk mains.
Mr. Mohammed would also present another memo for discussion on the contract for the resurfacing of existing roads and remedial works on bridges in Wuse 1 and Garki 1 districts of the capital city.
The Minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe, would present two memos during the meeting, including contracts for the construction of Mbak Atai-Ikot Ntu-Mkpeti-Oku Iboku Road in Akwa Ibom, and phase 1 of Mbak Mkpeti-Itu-Oko Ita- Arochukwu Road in Abia/Cross River/Akwa Ibom states.
Similarly, the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, would take his turn to present the memo for a contract for the supply of radiation and explosive detection devices as well as for the feasibility studies on new standard gauge railway lines (lot 1A and 1Cs).
He would also introduce discussions on the contract for the design, manufacture, supply and commissioning of two sets of diesel multiple units, DMUS, and additional six passenger coaches for use on the Lot 1 narrow gauge tracks; contract for consultancy services for the resident supervision of the construction of inland river port at Jamata, Lokoja (Lot 4) and contract for the construction of 305 MV Manilla Hydroelectric Power project; contract for the supply of radiation and explosive detection devices.
He would also introduce discussions to ratify the anticipatory approval of contract for the rehabilitation of Eastern railway track network linking Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.
The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, would lead the discussion on the contract for the rehabilitation of the Umana-Ndiagu-Agba-Ebenebe-Amansi Akwa Road with spur to Umumbe Road section 11 in Enugu state and construction of Ogrute-Umuida-Unadu-Akpanya-Odoru Road in Enugu/Kogi states.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, would present a memo for discussion on the discussion on the cost adjustment, scope variation and extension of timelines for the contract for the expansion of the Escravos-Lagos Gas Pipeline phase II project, while the Minister of State for Power would present for discussion contract for the completion of Obudu-Ogoja 132KV DC for transmission line for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, PLC.
