OPINION: Should FG Grant Repentant Boko Haram Members Amnesty?

Co-ordinator of the presidential amnesty transformation programme, Mr. Allen Onyema, has urged the Federal Government to give repentant members of Boko Haram sect a second chance by granting them amnesty.
Onyema, who partly blamed northern leaders and elite for the immense poverty in the region, also called for compensation for victims of the Boko Haram menace whether through attacks of the sect or military incursion.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, the lawyer, who leads the Federation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria, FEHN, urged members of the sect to come out, renounce violence, and accept the amnesty being offered by the government.
Noting that majority of northerners are peaceful and want peace, he regretted the violent turn things had taken in the region.
