A bomb, suspected to have been detonated by a suicide bomber, has exploded in a car in a densely populated commercial area of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital in northeast Nigeria, PREMIUM TIMES reports.
The explosion occurred some less than 200 meters away from where our reporter was sitting in a car with a friend.
The explosion, which went off at exactly 1:30pm, occurred right in front of a large military military post called JTF Sector 4, which is located in the area called Post Office.
While people with blood drenched bodies were seen scampering for safety, PREMIUM TIMES reporter managed to maneuver his way amidst the confusion and escaped before zooming off as soldiers began to shoot sporadically.
Many people were injured as a vehicle from the other lane was also seen burning.
Vehicles collided with one another as they tried to escape from the scene.
A woman raising her hands above her head was shouting “I am finished, I am finished”, probably suggestive of the possible lost of a relation or something.
Another young boy, about 15 years old, was seen begging for help, as sympathizers were shouting “he needs to be taken to the hospital, he needs medical care”.
The death casualty in the incident could not be ascertained immediately.
More details soon....
