Hot Photo: Dana Crash Site Abandoned, Ground Victims Left To Fate?

The abandoned site of the June 3 Dana flight 992 Plane Crash at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos is now being overrun by weeds, the street itself deteriorating from motorists and pedestrians’ use.
Once a developing area, Popoola Street suffered a destructive and deadly hit from the Boeing MD-83 craft, which killed 153 passengers on board and at least six persons on the ground.

Among other things, the crash left one building totally crushed. A furniture company, with an attached warehouse containing two container loads of published books, was also destroyed.
Apart from millions of concerned citizens who trooped to the site on the day of the crash and thereafter, the crash site became a big tour center for government officials for few days. Six months later, the place is suffering serious abandonment.
A Lagos State Government agency inspected some houses in the vicinity of the crash site and informed their owners that their buildings had seriously weakened foundations from the impact of the crash.
Those landlords and other inhabitants have, however, been left to their fate and left to settle in them.
