There was a twist in the murder case of Olaitan Oyerinde, late Principal/Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, as three suspects earlier arrested and paraded by the State Security Service (SSS) in connection with the murder, denied their involvement in the crime.
The suspects Edeh Chikezie, 32, Raymond Oregbo, 24, and Muhammed Ibrahim along with four others who allegedly received goods stolen from Olaitan’ house, who were handed over to the Police by the SSS, made the denial Thursday shortly before their arraignment before an Evboriaria Magistrate Court Benin-City.
The suspects who spoke to journalists at the Edo police command headquarters, admitted being armed robbers who have robbed in several houses in Edo state.
Discribing the murder of Olaitan as unfortunate, the suspects claimed to have admitted taking part in the murder of Oyerinde on May 4, 2012 as a result of alleged torture they went through in the hands of operatives of the SSS, just as they denied ever being to Olaitan’s house.
Meanwhile, the Court presided over by Senior Magistrate Edo Asemota has ordered that the suspects be remanded in prisons custody, and that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice.
