INFIDELITY: My Husband Failed To Make Me A Mother - Wife

A 25-year-old woman, Maria Agbo, on Thursday stunned a Makurdi Customary Court when she admitted the pregnancy she was carrying was for her secret lover, not her husband.
Maria said she had been compelled to do so because her husband, Joseph Agbo, was not man enough.
She said she had been married for three years without any proof of motherhood.
Maria said her lover, Enokela, who she described as “the love of her life”, did what her husband could not do for three years.

“For three years I was married to Joseph, he could not make me pregnant, I tried all available options but nothing seemed to change the situation.
“Since I love children, I tried my best and he knew that I tried everything within my powers but he was unable to make me enjoy motherhood.
“When I met Enokela, he made me a mother and he is the father of my unborn child,” she said.
She told the court that she did not love her husband, but had been forced into the marriage by her parents because of the relationship between the two families.
Maria said she left her husband in January before getting pregnant.
Maria had earlier dragged her husband to a Grade 1 Court, Owukpa where she was granted divorce.
However, dissatisfied with the verdict, her embattled husband appealed against the judgment, maintaining that the lower court erred by granting the divorce.
He claimed that he was the rightful owner of the pregnancy.
The Alekwu deity
Agbo argued that the lower court also erred in the application of Idoma Customary Law when it granted divorce in spite of the evidence of Maria’s pregnancy.
He dismissed Maria’s claims of infidelity, adding that if she had actually committed adultery, “Alekwu” a local deity, would have struck her dead.
Josesph explained that adultery was forbidden in Idoma land and the powers of “Alekwu” were feared by all Idoma people.
After listening to both parties, the court adjourned to Nov. 29 for judgement on the matter.
